Basic Bakes was born when the hunger for creation- and delicious baked goods, met the experience and knowledge from bakers all around the world, from different eras. Tucked between the pages of various cookbooks, the recipes that once seemed impossible to perfect, are now being served, fresh from the oven with the hope of building a community that perceives the world of food the way we do.
Basic Bakes was initially a humble passion project in 2017, conceived by Captain Kaustav Mukherjee, who has now been sailing for over 30 years, and is currently working as a Marine Consultant. Taking wide inspiration from online recipes and cookbooks bought during a shopping spree around Kolkata on a sticky summer day, he has slowly built this brand and everything that surrounds it. The expansion has been gradual, but meaningful in each step. Starting from high-end birthday cakes to tarts and puffs that have been introduced to the City of Joy very recently, Basic Bakes has been in the game since the beginning. This venture is a modest attempt at trying to build a family that goes beyond the confinements of four walls, and to find people who enjoy food the way we do. Basic Bakes is an establishment that is built to honour bakers and chefs from all around the world, and from every time period, by bringing their ideas and inventions to life, sometimes while sticking exactly to the rules, and other times just tweaking a few of them. We are built on passion, hard work and the will to create something that will be larger than life itself, because here we are all bound together by our love for food.
